NokiaSiemens Provides Carrier Ethernet Switches to Chinese Telco

    NokiaSiemens Networks said it will provide China¡¯s Yunnan CTC, a branch of China Telecom, with carrier Ethernet switches.

    The SURPASShi D6650 carrier-grade Ethernet switches will allow Yunnan CTC to enhance its existing network in terms of traffic engineering, QoS, administration, resilience, security and scalability, Nokia Siemens said. This will let the carrier offer a multitude of residential and business services ¨C ranging from telephony to VoD and VPNs ¨C over one network.

    NokiaSiemens Networks will carry out a large-scale carrier Ethernet switch deployment in China's south-western province of Yunnan. The deployment started at the end of July and the network is planned to start operations in September.

    The platform features Ethernet ring protection, and comprehensive mechanisms ensure QoS and allow demanding applications like IPTV. The switches support a comprehensive VLAN scheme, including service-VLAN. The support of IEEE 802.1ad Ethernet packets, also known as QinQ, will allow the Yunnan CTC to improve its traffic engineering, Nokia Siemens said.
