Google Inc. said Tuesday Chief Financial Officer George Reyes is retiring.

    The 53-year-old will remain at the Internet giant to assist in the search for his replacement and to help ease the transition. Google said it expects a new CFO to be in place by the end of the year.

    Reyes, who has been with Google since 2002, did not give a reason for his decision to retire in an online statement. He helped orchestrate Google through its enormous initial public offering three years ago.

    "George has been a full partner in Google's global growth and development," said Google co-founder, Larry Page. "He has done an excellent job in keeping us financially disciplined while protecting the best of our entrepreneurial culture."
